5-STAR SHOW FROM THE SAINTS

The away day blues came to an end as a rampant San Fulgencio side crushed Atletico Santa Pola 0-5. The Saints pretty much controlled the match with the home side being limited to few chances which were missed or kept at bay by Soriano.

In the first 10 minutes the Saints could have been ahead with Raul missing 2 good chances, the second, which struck the bar. Saints took the lead in the 13th minute. Liberto skipped passed 3 players and crossed from the bye-line for Gary, who tapped in from six-yards. He should have extended the lead with a solo run from the halfway line but shot just wide. Midway through the first half, Victor headed just over from a corner and Gary made the keeper work after a quick free-kick saw his 30-yard half-volley tipped around the post. Poor defending led to the Saints second, 5 minutes before the break, when Gary robbed the ball off the Santa Pola centre-back, cut inside another defender and finished with ease past the keeper. Half time and the score was 0-2. Saints made two changes with Alonso replacing Raul and 10 minutes in Joselu replaced Gary. Santa Pola pushed forward more and were looking to get back into the match, to no avail. Samu replaced Liberto after 70 minutes and within 6 minutes of his arrival he volleyed home Jairo's header, for Saints third. Two minutes later and Saints were four-up when Alonso scored. This was his first goal in 3 years at the club, tapping in at the back post from Samu's pinpoint cross. Carlos then made his Saints debut, replacing Jairo. With 5 minutes of the game remaining, Santa Pola were reduced to 10-men, when the right-back was sent off for a second bookable offence. The end of the game was nearing, but Saints hadn't finish. Carlos fed Samu who scored Saints fifth from the edge of the box, and Joselu should have made it 6, but was denied by the crossbar late into injury time.
